Supra Head Gasket
October 25, 2010
Approximately how much would this all cost, including the head bolt torque adjustments. I am aware time is a feature of payment. And what about if I purchased a head gasket myself and had my mechanic install it. After looking around, I learned — my buddy paid $1200 to have a head gasket done at a shop (and that was several years ago). repair manual=$20 top end gasket set= around $75 that warm fuzzy feeling you get knowing you did it yourself and saved a bunch of money=priceless like the guy above said, find a buddy whoever knows what they are doing and give them 200-300 and save yourself some money. head bolt torque adj??? You use a torque wrench in 3 steps to around 85lb. Its a proceedure, not part you need= head gasket, maybe exhaust gasket, maybe intake gasket, maybe valve cover gasket . I don't think a shop will discount for parts brought in.
7mge head gasket is blow, and more is my project and cleaning the engine bay and engine. 7mge gasket de tete a réparer , mon projet de nettoyage de l'engine bay et du moteur, la réparation du gasket en meme temp, clutch aussis et tout autre chose mal plugué et fil coupé

Its not that big of a job, its just hard cause you a bit of space. Just make sure if you do do it yourself take lots of pictures first and during dismantling so you dont forget where everything goes.

The gasket is not the biggest part of the cost. It is a fairly big job to get the head off any turbocharged engine.
If you shop around you will probably find head gaskets over a wide price range. There is a good reason the expensive ones exist – some turbo engines eat cheap head gaskets for breakfast. You don't have to go with the absolute best unless you run the engine hard a lot, but don't go with any cheap one unless you want to do this again soon. My motorhead brother went through three head gaskets on his turbo Renault before he plunked down $300 for a copper head gasket – problem solved.

Use only genuine Toyota parts, and coolant on this car!!!! VERY IMPORTANT!!! Consult with ALLDATA data base found in many libraries. DO-it yourself with hand tools and a little gumption!!!! CHEAP!!! Let someone else do it, EXPENSIVE!!! Use a camera phone and take pictures of your own work. LEARN something new!! E-mail me back with any problems. EASY!!
