I have a 1992 Lexus LS400 and I've been getting lots of white smoke out of the exhaust when I start the car. Everyone seems to think it's a head gasket problem. Is this serious and expensive to have fixed? I'm retired and can't afford much. I was happy to learn… More tham $1,000 to fix a head gasket, look at your oil in the engine and if it looks milky colored and if you have been losing antifreeze and wondering where it's going you have a bad head gasket or intake gasket.

Supra Head Gasket

Looking at 89 toyota supra turbo for $1800. Dealer said it has a blown head gasket. Is it worth the money to fix or not. After looking around, I learned — My assumption is since you are asking if it is worth it, is you are questioning whether this model supra would be worth putting money in to make fast and such. Well, chances are you might have a warped head, might need to change your water pump, etc. If you want something for a project, then go for it. If it is something that you need to get going now, and need to last a while with limited funds, I would say no. It doesn't have the famed 2jz engine, so personally I wouldn't bother.

Your Resolved QuestionShow me another » Mg zr issues with overheating and HGF Failure please help? I have an MG ZR 1. 4 with 64,000 miles ont he clock. It broke down at 63,000 on the motorway with Head Gasket Failure, the coolant was completely empty when it broke down but I had only filled it a few days previous. I got towed to the garage and they confirmed the head gasket was gone. Advising it would be around £860. 00 to sort out. The garage called later in the week and advised that the head gasket had been done at least once if not twice before and that they needed to put a head saver on it as the head was that badly worn and they they would also have to replace the valves which were also in a bad state. I have had the car back a month and I am still having lots of trouble with it and I am worried the head gasket si going to blow again, the followign things are happening: 1. )The coolant level drops extremely quickly I am currently topping up every two to three days. 2. )The engine makes a peculiar ticking noise 3. )It is very slow getting from 0mph to 20mph feels like I have to rev the engine to get going.

4. ) there is NO mayo on the disptick or oil filler cap.

5. )White smoke comes from the exhaust not excessive but more on a cold day. Please can somebody advise me on what is best to do, I had only had the car 6 months when the gasket went and its cost me a small fortune to sort out. I could have bought a new car for the money ive spent. Gutted ;-(. Somebody did say I may be better off just getting whole engine replaced but with something other than the old rover engine thats in it? Essentially — Get rid of it – the MG ZR is basically a Rover 200, Rover decided in their wisdom to construct the engine of aluminium. My Rover went at 47000, I put a younger engine in with 30000 miles which I got from a scrap dealer and sold the car, apparently it did the same again 18months/15000 miles later. I had a lot of problems getting an engine as it is a very common problem. From what I've heard the radiator is too small for the car/engine which may be the cause of the problem. Personally I would never buy another Rover.

Hi, I have a 1990 Ford Taurus 3. 8 V6 with 157. 000 miles. The car has a blown head gasket. How do you determine which gasket is blown (front or rear)? Since only one gasket is blown is it necessary to change both? Since at least one head has to come off, should the same head go back on or, should a remanufactured head go back on? When a head is sent to a shop to be checked what is it being checked for? Thank You. I think I found an answer. Why would you only replace ONE? You might as well replace BOTH if you are going to invest in the labour of the repair. Are you doing this repair yourself? If so, I STRONGLY recommend you buy the gaskets from your local FORD dealer. The part number is F5PZ-6051-BB. In this set, you get the UPDATED head gaskets for BOTH banks, the intake gaskets, all new cylinder head bolts, and valve cover gaskets for the '94 model year and newer style valve covers, so you'll have to purchase a set of valve cover gaskets separately. These gaskets are not expensive from the dealer. When the head(s) are sent out to the machine shop, they check for warpage of the gasket surfaces, and regrind the valves if requested. The common failure point on these, is usually the corner of cylinders #3 & #4. Hope this helps. And, I do not own my own shop LOL.

And what is an oxygen sensor? How about the head gasket? Because most of the car's compression is caused by a good head gasket. One can not only run a vehicle without thinking about his car's good compression.

Cylinder Head Gasket Failure

My car has been losing coolant for a few weeks now, but hasn't overheated beyond that point where the fan cuts in and everything cools down. A couple of days ago it started misfiring and today the AA have diagnosed a possible Cylinder Head Gasket failure. The engine appears to hold pressure, then suddenly lose it, repeatedly. It causes it to misfire and run lumpy. Inbetween misfires, it runs as smoothly as it ever did, so should I anticipate damage to the internals of the cylinder? I'm wondering which came first, the Gasket failure or the Coolant loss? Is it possible that the Gasket has been failing and so causing the coolant loss (the water has appeared to be "muddy" in the expansion tank), or is it more probable that the coolant loss is from somewhere else and has caused the failure of the Gasket? I'm confused, as you can tell. I'm wary of turning up at a garage and, as a female, being blinded with science. Also, if anyone has any idea on probable cost, I'd be grateful. Do you know what I found? Leakage,muddy coolant,misfires all are indications of a leaking head gasket. . Known to crack a cylinder head,destroy a piston. . The head gasket of my hyundai accent was repaired using some sort of liquid/solution sealer as I could not afford to pay £550 or so fees to have the engine taken out. Now the car does not overheat anymore, however, a friend told me that is only a temporary fix. He says it will eventually go wrong again. 1). – How reliable is of fixing the head gasket by using this liquid sealer? 2). – if it realiable, doing long distance trips (300 miles) in one trip will cause it to blow he head gasket? Approximately how much would this all cost, including the head bolt torque adjustments. I am aware time is a feature of payment. And what about if I purchased a head gasket myself and had my mechanic install it. You use a torque wrench in 3 steps to around 85lb. Its a proceedure, not part you need= head gasket, maybe exhaust gasket, maybe intake gasket, maybe valve cover gasket . I don't think a shop will discount for parts brought in.

My rear seal of my engine is leaking a slow leak. Somebody know if Lucas stop oil leak work or my engine? It this Lucas engine oil stop leak work? It this good for my suv. I think I found an answer. If it stops the leak at all it'll start leaking again. Stop leak works by softening up the seal. It goes on and wears out more and leaks worse. Get a new clutch when you have the seal replaced. If Auto, just fix the leak.
